Syracuse police have launched an active investigation in the 800 and 900 blocks of Hawley Avenue following reports of shots being fired near Dr. Edwin E. Weeks Elementary School on Friday morning at approximately 9:15 a.m. As a result, both blocks of Hawley Avenue have been closed off until further notice, and authorities are urging the public to avoid the area if possible. While the investigation is ongoing, there is currently no known threat to the public.
Update 12:16 PM: The investigation has concluded, and both blocks have been reopened.
A body was discovered in the water at Jamesville Beach Park on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, confirming the fate of a missing individual. State troopers have identified the deceased as a Baldwinsville man, and the cause of death is believed to be either suicide or accidental drowning, with no indication of foul play. The search operation was initiated after the man left his vehicle in the park, which was found with open doors and personal belongings outside. Despite extensive efforts by state troopers, Onondaga County Sheriff's Office deputies, and search resources, the man remained missing until a K9 handler located his body in a pond/marsh area of the Jamesville Reservoir.
Gunshots erupted during a Large street gathering, 13 people were injured: 4 shot, 6 stabbed, and 3 hit by vehicles. Air 1 and multiple ambulances were called, multiple walk in’s at area hospitals.
Large fight outside of Fowler High School/PSLA. SPD unit 927 was in the area for a prior miscellaneous complaint and noticed a large fight outside the school. Person did have knife (Idk why media says otherwise). 4 in custody, SPD and Syracuse City School District DPS (Security) responded. One of many major calls at SCSD schools today
